Writing a review: Game of thrones
To write this review I took inspiration from the textbook "Venture into First" by Michael Duckworth, Kathy Gude, Jenny Quintana.
The fantasy series Game of Thrones is set in the fictional Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. It is a big-budget show filmed in stunning locations, and includes a cast of talented actors. It tells several stories at once, all about the struggle for power.
What I really appreciate about the show is that the creators have given rise to a rich fantasy world of a large range of astonishing lands, people and stories. For instance, to the east there is Daenerys Stormborn and her dragoons; inthe north, John Snow protects the land from the "White Walkers". In comparison with most fantasy stories centred on the struggle between good and evil, Games of Thrones deals with a mix of both, which is what makes the storylines so intriguing.
My main complaint is that most characters die unexpectedly. I was so disappointed when my favourite character was killed that I almost stopped watching. It's also utterly violent even though the creators argue that it reflected the real atmosphere of medieval times.
Overall, I would recommend Game of Thones. It is a very entertaining series with some original ideas. It is sometimes very shocking, but it is definitely worth watching.
